Editing My Music Video

Hey you lovely people!
Today, I finally get to edit my music video. Which I'll be using different types of effects, trimming a lot. Picking between all the takes and choosing the perfect one to use. And adding aesthetic to my music video which be the most fun for me contributing to the mis en scene. The first thing I do to get started is trim the song for be a duration of a minute and 15 seconds. Once that's done I lock that part when editing that doesn't get messed up. After I look over the footage and figure out the order I want them to be for the video. I took my time and reviewed each of the takes and dropped off the ones I could use.  Next, was where I had to make cuts and have the video flow into one another so it would be less choppy and each clip flows into each other. I removed all the sound from the original footage and used the song as a replacement so their is no part of the video without sound.
Then, I moved on to lighting which I began to edit throughout in each clip to keep it consistent. I have mainly bright lighting which contributes to the theme of a happy, merry, joyful, cheerful atmosphere. I would go back and replay the the video each time to ensure my edits or make some adjustments that were necessary. I moved on to the effects in the music video and everything I wanted to add in terms of transitions, clip art, and anything I want to contribute to the scene. [TO BE CONTINUE]

Filming Music Video #2

Hey, Blog!
Okay, this is the second day of filming this time it's on campus and includes my beloved friends. So, I explained to them what exactly what I was going to film, what the purpose of what I what and how I  needed them to act when being filmed which wasn't hard at all. So, I filmed during lunch time and after school as well. At lunch time i had my friends all gathered around eating lunch, with friendly faces on socializing. I took a pan shot going from left to right, then opposite. Then I took of a close-up of some of my friends individually. I had them smile, or just be themselves in the present moment. I took a couple of takes tough it wasn't necessary at all. I got some great shots of smiling and friendly faces. So, filming went smooth for that the first half.  Next, it was time to film after school.
Usually on Tuesday I have choir club with my friends and a couple days before I asked them all to stay after club was done to help me shoot the next part to my music video. Though on the day choir club was canceled last minute. Which was really convenient for me, because no one had a ride home at the moment. So, I took that opportunity to get filming done, my camera was running low on battery so I charged it up for it bit while rehearsing with my friends what they were going to do when being filmed. That took a few moments the camera had reached a decent amount of charge and I set everything up outside by the grass and could finally begin filming.
I did my best to set to the camera at a high angle the only issue was that most of them were tall but, I managed. They held hands in a circle and ran around the camera this was the portray the lyric of the song "We're all beautiful when we come together," so I had them smile which resulted in laughter as well. I took about 3 takes of this two which included me in it. After I had them hold of posters with words of encouragement I planned to edit in. So, I them say random things that made them happy and pose with the posters. They came up with the most random things and which made them laugh and it was exactly what I need laughter. The shots I took of this were at medium close-ups, and at eye level. After I got to ride on the backs of friends and they ran while I was on their backs. The exact of purpose of this was to match with this lyric of the song which says "We were made to carry one another, were made for more".  That was the really fun part for me personally, and filming was finally over.  I packed up all my stuff the camera, tripod, and my props. I walked with my friends out of campus and told them they did an amazing job. We all went home, and enjoyed the rest of our day. Next up editing I was really excited to look back at the footage and thinking about all the cool affects I could add to create my music video. Though I never had to chance to do my solo I was really satisfied with how filming went and I can't wait to see the outcome! ;)

Filming Music Video #1

Hey blog!
So, over the Thanksgiving Holiday Break. I did some filming and the night before the break I was testing the camera, figuring out all the features it has on the software and how I can put them to use when filming. So I have a lots of testing videos on the SD card. So, I went out to Walmart to gather things I thought I might end up needing for the music video. I wanted to buy a backdrop but, it was out of my mom's price range. Then I wanted to buy a flashlight for lighting but, I in the end I decided to use my camera's flash, or otherwise. After, I went out and gathered all the materials I needed I went home and I was figuring out how to my backdrop. I gather a couple colored sheets I preferred for my music video. After, that was complete I went to the location where I would be shooting my music video and set up the scenery and how I want the backdrop to look.
After that was being finished I showed my camera the specific camera angles I wanted to get when being filmed. All the different camera movements he was supposed to do such as tilts, and pans. Then, my brother who'd I'd include in a certain scene where I'd play basketball in the music video showed  me how to dribble and play a bit of basketball . We spent about 10-15 minutes practicing how to defense and dribble and after we finished I wanted to do a certain action to go with the music video. After spending time rehearsing that with him, I reviewed the choreography with my sister then we were finally ready to film.
Though the sun started to go down really quickly, we used it as our timer. We all got into props and I had them dressed up accordingly. I went over the procedure one last time again. Then, we began filming. The basketball scene took multiple takes until I got the perfect take. It was hard and we we're also rushing at the same time to complete the scene because the sun was going down fast. We made one scene complete next it was my sister's turn. I wanted to take the choreography for the song of me and me sister in different angles. So I went over that with my brother one last time, once he got it down. I turned on the music so when going back to edit the song will better synchronized with the dance. I took it at a high angle, a medium close-up, and wide angle. Though the sun had already gone down but with just enough lighting to create a cool affect on the sky which was perfect for me to add to my music video. But with not enough time to film my solo, but it was a fun time. Next, blog is part two for filming! Bye :)!

Music Video Storyboard

Hey you guys!
Today is where I'l be posting my storyboard for my music video. The first scene I'll take is where I'll start out lip singing in front of the camera to the song. I'll have a backdrop and I'll wear a nice dress an eye catching color that'll contribute to the lighting of design of the music video. This scene includes a series of friendly faces I plan to include in this music video. The first take is me playing basketball with my brother. To contribute with what I have going on in this scene I'll have him pretend to trip and fall, and then, I'll go ahead and lend him helping hand. Another scene is where I'll display a variety of different races and cultures using my friends. Because I want to represent people coming from all different types of backgrounds and ethnicity.
Box 1
In the first box of my drawn story board there's a picture of me in front of a backdrop coming in as a solo singing the intro the song. The camera will tilt upwards to starting at my feet and moving up until it reaches my face. This will be the first angle of this scene, I planned this scene to be taken at several different angles. Though this scene switches to a different scene which is in a different location.

Box 2
The next scene is a video of friends holding up a poster sending out a message to the world. There will be several scenes such as this one with different posters and different people.

Box 3
The next location of this scene is at a basketball court featuring this time my brother.  First a pan shot of court to display the location. In this scene he and I are at a friendly game of basket ball. Then, during the game I trip and fall afterwards helps me up. This is action of positive vibes. Then he carries me on his back this matches a lyric to the song. The angle of the camera will be a  medium close-up, wide shot, and long shot. Movements  include a

Box 4
The fourth box includes my friends running across the grass. This is taken to show the action of happiness. When editing this will be done in slow motion. This will be in a wide shot.

Box 5
The fifth box switches back to the scene where I'm singing in front of the camera. This time this is taken at a different angle.

Box 6
This switches back to the basketball scene with my brother. This scene will be cut into parts when edited throughout the music video. With different sets of angles and movements.

Box 7
This box includes another poster being displayed. held by two people the camera will pan to the left to show this time.

Box 8
The scene is where friends are gathered around the table socializing. This will be taken at a high angle. Then, a close of their faces individually. Then, I plan for them to hold hands and walk  in a circle and  I'll move the camera around in the center of the circle towards the opposite direction.

Box 9
This scene I decided to change.  Me and my sister will do a little choreography to the song. This also includes a different set of angles and choreography.

Box 10
Switching back to the scene where I sing in front of the camera.

Box 11
Switching back to the basketball scene where this time displaying me being carried on my brother's back. Long shot, medium close up, and tracking shot.

Box 12
Two posters now being displayed, and an end card at the end saying "spread love".

(Research & Conventions) Creating A Music Video!

 HEY!
Yes, you read that right so this week we doing a music video for our class. I'm so freaking excited for this project. I have been wanting to film an actual music video for sooo long!! This is so exciting for me, and one of the many great reasons I joined this course. I'm working on this particular project by myself so I have full control this time. Though I am including all my friends in this music video so I'll still be able to have them in my video. I've already thought of so may different ideas and places, and songs to do the video. The hardest part was deciding on a song to do. Going through the thought process of all the songs I know and how many great songs there are, let juts say it was a very difficult decision. But I have finally Settled on  a song for my music video which I am so excited for which is; Bleed The Same by Mandisa ft. Toby Mac & Kirk Franklin.
So, I did my research on music videos. I looked up the music video to the song I'm doing. The music video uses different lighting affects and aesthetic. Lighting uses are backlighting, hard lighting, low-key lighting and neutral lighting. The angles used in this music video are lots of wide shots, a few high angles, and mainly consist of close ups towards the face and medium-close ups.
This song's length is about four minutes long but, our music video has a limit to a minute and 30 seconds has a really nice message to the world, and how we function as a society. One of the most powerful lyrics in the song says "Tell me, who are we to judge someone by the kind of clothes their wearing or by the color of their skin?" This is an issue currently happening with our society on how people are being discriminated by race, skin color, sexuality, or gender. In my music video I want to reached out to those who feel attacked and struggle with situations and events like these. these things and motivate them to through positive lyrics like these. Also, the chorus my favorite part of the song sums up the entire theme to the music video where it says "We all bleed the same. We're all beautiful when we come together. We all bleed the same, so tell me why? Tell me why we're divided. -- Fight for each other! Let love be the cry!"
The genre this song would fit in is Gospel Pop. The conventions of this genre are usually motivational, and inspiring. The music videos usally consists of lots of wide shots these videos include lots people. There are parts where the artist does a solo and they sing in front of the camera, that scene shuffling through all the different ones. The locations with this type of genre have a huge variety. Depending on the theme of the song and what message the video is coveying. With all that in mind I plan to include lots of different scenes, different locations. Lots people of all types of race, culture, and ethnicity. This is actually happening! 😆😆 Alright I'll see you on the next vlog!

Commercial Blog

Hey you guys,
So, I'm a little overdue with this blog. What matters though is that Cambridge sees this for the sake of my grade. My partner Tay and I did the NIKE commercial and we finally got to edit it today and look back at our videos. Something funny happened actually when looking back at our footage we found out that my finger was in the way of the lens of the camera the entire time. I didn't realize this before. Though when we moved to film on the grass area my hand was out of the lens way, so I still don't understand how that managed to happen, but it did. Moving on, when we finally got to edit our videos I got to admit there were some issues between cooperation and working as a team. I arrived at class finding my partner Taylor getting a head start on editing our footage which was amazing to find out that we had already got started on working on it. Everything was fine until it came to both of us editing together.
I felt like Taylor had more control than I did. I wanted to included creative edits to our commercial and have the commercial align very close to our storyboard. But most of our footage wasn't able to make it on there which could have but wasn't able to because unfortunately, my partner complained that it was going beyond the time limit. There was so much I could've done to fix that such as speed up a video or slow down a video but that I didn't get to do at all. We didn't get to fix any sort of lighting or add transitioning effects though all weren't really necessary to be put into the commercial which I completely understand. Though I would've like to try and practice with the software and maybe some effects might've even contributed to the theme.  The only thing I had more control over because she didn't care very much, was the audio.
So, our idea was to merge two songs together (an instrumental track, and a song with lyrics fading in later on). So I downloaded three songs; two which consist of the same song with both an instrumental track and the official song lyrics. Then, an instrumental to a different song. Though after editing and merging both the songs together it didn't seem to flow together and after letting my partner listen and letting her know my concern she said it sounded fine. Though I had another alternative I wanted to try then we would both compare the two but she didn't allow me to. Towards the end of class, still having over 20 minutes left till class ended we watched the video a couple of times and I felt like I had no choice to agree on settling on submitting it. Though I told her I want go back and edit some things and add a bit of creativity to the commercial. But she went ahead and exported the video and submitted the project.
Overall, the honest grade we deserve is like a very low C or a D+ because we both didn't do our best to meet the criteria/rubric of the project. The cooperation wasn't there and finally our video didn't turn out to be of good work ethic. That's to summarize this blog guys.

Love, Dee

Filming Blog

Hi, Blog!!
So last class, we were filming for the NIKE commercial project we've talked about last blog. At the beginning of class we gather all our tech including the camera and tripod. We changed into our clothing and got our props signed our borrow items and the each of us my partner Tay and I received filming passes. After, Tay and I walked to the track where we would filmed our first scene. Before we filmed anything though we figured out how to work the tech, we turned on our camera and set up the tripod. Tay and I reviewed the storyboard, which was the draft for how we planned to film commercial  and discuss what we were going to be filming and how. We picked our filming spot and I went first as the subject to be filmed. I was posed 'started and ready to run',  I crouched down and my hands were on the floor in a starting position. Tay had the camera and did a tilt going up and down my position and she did a countdown to 3 for when I should start running and I was off but as I was told I was running a little faster than I needed to. We took about 3-4 takes of that same scene than, it was Tay's turn and we took a couple of takes of her doing the exact same thing.
After we were finished our tilt, low angle, and slightly a tracking shot than we were able to move onto our next scene. This time Tay and I were both running and we took a long shot of us running towards the camera and past it and about 4-5 takes. The camera kept falling and going into a high angle. Though the camera didn't fall off the tripod, it kept tilting downwards pointing the lens up towards the sky but we figured out how to keep it steady. Tay and I had the idea to use a bit of choreography into our commercial because NIKE had dance wear such as bras, leggings, footwear etc. so, we thought why not have a little fun with it? We used a choreography of one of our favorite KPOP songs called "Loving Till It Hurts" by ---.

Editing The Commercial

Hey Blog!
Today, we were going to be editing the footage we filmed last time for our commercial. The one introduced about a couple of blogs ago. Though there were some technical difficulties with the computers we were working with. We logged into them and pinnacle studios the editing software we were going to use took a massive amount of time loading everything. At first, my partner and I thought it was our computer alone that was malfunctioning then, in the background our professor Mrs. Marchionne we heard and saw that she was also having issues with other students computers as well. She went around and tried helping everyone the best way she could but, wasn't making much progress. After, the class realized this wasn't working she had us all remove our footage from our desktops and transfer them to a place where we could still be able to dump them onto a new desktop. Some of us prefer to save it on iCloud, others Google Drive while, my partner Tay and I decided to use Google drive because its way for us and we both can easily access it as to us both having gmail accounts. Throughout the entire time while we were trying to get pinnacle studios to work we worked on our film blogs because that was also due that same day.
The students in the class started stressing about their grades and all they needed to get done before class was over the technical difficulties weren't making it any better. The computers took all the time in the world to load everything and a lot of us were getting really impatient. Our professor Mrs. Marchionne told us something that was so relieving "Guys I wouldn't ever fail you for something that you physically can't get done." We all started to calm down, and work on our Filming Blogs for the remainder of that class then, everyone at the end of class closed out their desktops and started packing for the rest of the class and we put the issues of the computers to deal with for next class which was today. We walk into class today hoping that everything was resolved and the computers were fixed. Most of the class seemed pretty excited to start editing today, I could tell with all the exciting expressions on their faces. Sadly though, our professor steps up to the front and tells us that the computers remain not working and that we'll be receiving new laptops to start working. We''ll have to wait for them to arrive to start working on the editing process, and move forward with all that has happened. I will include what me and my partner had planned to edit in our commercial that we filmed.
We wanted to add in a couple of slow motion effects here and there to add in a dramatic effect at the begging of the commercial and alternate between different scenes so it would creatively display all the montages.  The one thing specifically for my group was that we were really excited for though is adding in the music for the commercial. My partner Tay and I both have an admiration for the music genre KPOP and we had an idea of including the instrumentals of not one, but two of our favorite songs as the soundtrack for our commercials. My group was also pretty excited to look at all the footage we took and how good we did and comment on everything. So that's it blog, today didn't go as planned nothing did but see you next time for the next one. Hopefully we'll be editing by then. Byee!!

Storyboard Blog

Hey everyone 😄!
So today is story boarding day, each slide of our story boards show a six second clip of the full movie or in this case commercial, our commercials are going to be 30 seconds long so we're going to be using five storyboard slides. In the first six seconds we are going to be using a low angle that flows into a tilt. This shot will show us tying up our laces and preparing to jog the track as a warm up. In this scene we'll also be using a jump cut, showing both actors. In scene number two, we will be doing a tracking shot of one actor jogging. With this shot you will be able to see both the right and left side of how the the actor is running. In this we will being using an "eye-level" camera angle. In clip three, you will see a multitude of jump cuts of both of our actors dancing to the chorus of "As If It's Your Last" by BlackPink during scene 3 and 4. The background track will be "Call Me Baby" by EXO instrumental. In the duration of this filming we will being at the track and the soccer field using natural lighting. In clip four, our actors will be walking down the halls of Fort Lauderdale, exhausted after a long morning of perfecting the dance. In our final clip they will sit down in their class, take out a snack and a Gatorade and take a long drink. We will use a fade out and show the NIKE sign.

Editing Class Blog

Hey Blog!! So I'm back with another for you guys,
Today, I'm going to tell you guys everything I've learned about editing. So to start, our class is using Pinnacle software to edit the commercials projects that we're working on. Remember the one we were planning for last time. Our AICE Media Professor showed us the cameras that we were gonna be using and they were pretty interesting. We learned the record button and where to insert the SD card slot which is an opening to the side of the camera. Also, we could get to use tripods our amazing professor showed us how cool, awesome and fun they were. We learned how to attach the camera to them and put them to use but, we are forbidden to carry the tripods while the camera is on them. She gave us some facts about how the camera works and the amount of charge etc.
Next, our professor gave us some terms to assist us in the use of editing. These terms were: dumping import, export, raw footage, and rendering. Raw Footage is the original file recorded with no edits of any sort,  better known as the draft of your project. Dumping is simply taking footage from the camera and SD card and transferring them to your desktop. Importing is receiving the footage from your desktop and transferring the file which is brought into editing software and in our case Pinnacle Editing Studios. Exporting is removing the footage that you have edited out of the editing software which leads into rendering your footage. Rendering is finalizing your footage completely making you are settled with anything and everything runs smoothly. Our professor went over the different types of tools used in Pinnacle Studios so we'd become more familiar with how to use everything.

Research convention and Codes

Hi blog! Welcome back,
Today we're going to talk about what goes into a commercial and particularly NIKE commercials. NIKE commercials are based around athleticism and comfort. Their commercials mainly focus on the athletic department and also give a sense of style with clothing, gear, shoes such as their Air Force ones and many other brands.

Now let's crackdown to their commercials. Like mentioned before, their commercials focus around the athletic department.There's many factors that are in play with sports commercials, angles, shots, and movements are a big piece of what you need to know to make your commercial a replica of the sport you're filming. Most common shots and angles used are called;
  • Wide shots
  • High angles
  • Close ups
  • Two person shots
  • Three person shots
  • Establishing shot
  • Long shots\
Shots and angles aren't the only factors however, movements are just as important as the angles you use. Nike commercials include lots of;
• Tracking Shots
• Crane shots
• Pans

Introduction

Hiyyeee! I'm Deedi and welcome to the new blog I'm starting for my AICE Media Studies class. Although no one out in the world will honestly ever read this blog excepts who actually needs to for the sake of my grade 🙃, I'm going to be dedicated to making this blog the most interesting and exciting it has yet to be. A huge contradiction to my life because my life isn't the most interesting.

Let's start by introducing myself to the unknown audience, so some might say I'm a very gullible person. I like to listen to musicals, kpop and the r&b genres of music. I'm an artsy person and very tiny 4'8 to be exact. I love the school I go to and all of my friends that support me. One thing I dislike is setting myself up for failure. Its very disappointing when I do and realizing all I'm capable of doing, I'll get angry at myself when I don't full potential into something.

I'm actually pretty excited to start this blog because I honestly never have done something like this before and I tend to get excited whenever I'm experiencing new things. Along all of my blogs I hope you guys will get to know me better. I'm going to try my best and be dedicated to being successful in this class. Thanks for reading.

Filming Blog: NO FILMING TOOK PLACE

Hi Blog!   Unfortunately filming couldn't happen the past week, there were a couple of events that took place during this time. I'...
